Just come across this blog, here's an interesting post about the King of Sweden's horse that died in the early 1630s and was stuffed and mounted. Lots of pics of detail like the horrendous curb bit and massive shoes.......and showing the shape of the body without the tack. Click on the pictures to enlarge them.

Interesting blog and article. Especially the photos of the stuffed 17C horse : :blink: he has the stance of a Fresian, or maybe that's just how you look when stuffed ;) and as to the bit, it's probably no worse than a long shank bit, I mean, just how much curb action can you get :?

That was really interesting! The stuffed horse is gruesome but it does serve as a fascinating piece of history. Looks as if he had a really flat back with no withers and a low croup, but it could be just the way he was stuffed or has succumbed to gravity.

Know how he feels, my croup and withers have succombed togravity too.... :lol:
